Car Travel with Your Dog: Why a Seat Cover Matters

Whether it's a quick trip to the vet or a weekend road trip, car travel with your dog can get messy — and unsafe — without the right setup.

Why Use a Seat Cover

A seat cover protects your upholstery from fur, mud, and scratches, but a good one does more than that: it can also help keep your dog contained in the back seat, reducing the chance of them climbing into the front or distracting the driver.

What to Look For

  • Waterproof, easy-to-wipe material
  • Secure anchor straps so it doesn't slide around
  • A mesh window or divider if you want to keep an eye on your dog
  • Side pockets for treats, water, or a leash

A Few Car Safety Basics

Even with a seat cover, it's worth using a harness attachment or crate for dogs prone to jumping around, and never let your dog ride with their head out an open window at speed.
